Exciting news from Vienna’s prime summertime dance festival ImPulsTanz! British-German visual artist, choreographer and dancer (which I didn’t know) Tino Sehgal, will mentor the danceWEB Scholarship Programme for ImPulsTanz 2016 (from July 13 – to August 17). In addition, the Austrian festival reports, the artist will extend next year’s festival workshop programme by a series dedicated to the interrelations between dance and visual arts – thus bringing together two of lookingfordrama‘s most favourite things.

Born in Britain, Berlin-based artist Tino Sehgal has a powerful relationship with performance. He created a blinding live work for the Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall in 2012, earning himself a five-star review from the discerning Adrian Searle of the Guardian and represented Germany at the Venice Biennale in 2013 – winning the Golden Lion for best artist. “I am looking forward to contribute and participate” in danceWEB, Tino Sehgal says, “Central aspects of dance have always been social, ritualistic and provided a sense of community. This is practised and celebrated in a very contemporary way in Vienna with danceWEB and its extremly diverse workshop program.”
Founded in 1996, the danceWEB Scholarship Programme has developed into one of the most important training and networking platforms worldwide for young aspiring dancers and choreographers.
